About Us

Steamed Organics is a small family run business. Each batch of organic food is hand prepared in small amounts in our  organic kitchen. We source our organic ingredients locally, and prepare them in small batches by hand. We do not outsource and  have no production line because we like to prepare food as you would at home. After steam cooking, which  preserves as many nutrients as possible, we freeze the food to seal  in all the natural goodness of good home made organic food. You will receive this food ready to heat, which will give your baby the best start to eating solids. Enjoy the weaning experience without the hastle!

Why Organic Baby Food?
Research has shown that organic fruit and vegetables contain up to 40% more nutrients if they are grown without fertilisers, chemicals and pesticides.
Newcastle University Professor Cario Lefeit, an expert in organic food, has been carrying out research on behalf of the EU.  He said "The health benefits of organic food are equivalent to eating an extra portion of fruit and veg every day."
We at Steamed Organics believe that everyone, especially young babies, deserve a diet of organic food, but we know that today's busy mums don't always have the time to source and cook this themselves. Steamed Organics helps solve this problem, and because of the lack of truly organic food for babies which has not been heat treated (which gives a longer shelf life but can alter the flavour), we felt that the process of steaming and then freezing gives your baby more nutrients and lots of flavour.

Weaning with our Organic Baby Food
Weaning is your baby's first taste of solid foods. Before this, she will have been on a diet of either breast or formula milk. Your baby will need to master the action of pushing the food from the front of her mouth to the back in order to swallow. This is different from the sucking motiion she will be used to.
Use a small soft spoon, for babys mouths are delicate, and talk to your baby while you feed her. Weaning should be a pleasure for you both, so relax and  enjoy your time together.
Baby rice is a good food to introduce at the very begining, mixed with her milk.  Six months old is the average age to start weaning, but this can vary depending on each childs weight and appetite.
At this time it is important that your baby also has plenty of milk as this is still the main stay of her diet. She will probably only be ready for a few spoonfulls at first.
When you feel she is ready, progress to our steamed fruit and vegetables, again remember little is best as your baby is just tasting new flavours.  Perhaps to start with, you may need to add a little milk to make it easier to swallow, remembering that milk is still the most important part of her diet.

The Benefits of Steam Cooking
Steam cooking keeps the flavour and texture of the food and loses least nutrients and anti-oxidants than boiling or microwaving. The food cooks in its own juice minimising loss of nutrients and texture; this is because the heat is gentle and does not roughen up the cellular structure of the food tissues, or aromatic composition. The steam slowly infuses through the ingredients, to create a uniform heating environment, unlike bubbly boiling water. Flavour noids lost after steaming fresh broccolli was 7%: when pressure cooked 47% was lost: 66% when boiled and a 97% when microwaved, according to a BBC publication.
The biggest casualties when boiling are vitamins C, B1 and mineral salts as they readily dissolve in water and are lost when the water is thrown away. By steaming and immediately freezing we ensure maximum goodness, without the use of additives or preservatives.
